5 Best Children’s Thanksgiving Books

Its November already and its time to change from ghost and goblins to turkeys and thankfulness. As a result here are 5 best children’s Thanksgiving books to use in your preschool classroom.

TURKEY TROUBLE

Turkey Trouble by Wedni Silvano

First, a fan favorite Turkey Trouble by Wedni Silvano. This Thanksgiving book takes your class on the adventure of a turkey that is trying to not get eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. After reading this book we discuss what we would dress as if we were in the turkey’s shoes. Afterwards you can lead into a favorite preschool thanksgiving art project of dressing up turkeys to hide for thanksgiving. Here is a link to a free turkey in disguise worksheet to use in your classroom.

10 FAT TURKEYS

10 fat turkeys by tony Johnston

Second book on the list is 10 Fat Turkeys by Tony Johnston. This book is not only a great read but also a great way to include math. Students can practice counting backwards from 10 and you can set up projects to build fences to hold turkeys. I like to use this book as a jumping off point for preschool thanksgiving theme small group activities.

THE BIGGIEST PUMPKIN EVER

The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll

If you didn’t cover pumpkins in October, no worries. In fact I still enjoy pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. The Biggest Pumpkin Ever by Steven Kroll, is a great start to the life cycle of a pumpkin and how to care for plants.

GIVE THANKS FOR EACH DAY

Give Thanks for Each Day by Sreven Merzger

The fourth book on our list is by Steven Metzger is a great book to teacher little about being thankful for the everyday things in their lives. With that in mind, Give Thanks for Each Day is a great introduction to a class discussion about what students are thankful for this year. For instance, my favorite answer last year was pie during our class discussion.

I AM THANKFUL

I Am Thankful: A Thanksgiving Book for Kids by Sheri Wall

Lastly on our list is I Am Thankful : A Thanksgiving Book for Kids by Sheri Wall goes through all of the different aspects of Thanksgiving. From traveling, cooking, being thankful, and serving others, this last book gives the students a great look into how Thanksgiving can look for other families.

Altogether this lists of best children’s Thanksgiving books to use with your preschoolers or in the classroom will be a great addition to your November lesson plans.
