As a first time mom 7 years ago (almost 8 now ) I remember looking at the price of baby food and think how crazy expensive something so simple was. However, I also was supper intimidated to try making my own. Everyone was talking about how you should buy organic this and that, but stay away from this. After reading many articles I realized the process of making actual baby food was quite simple. So, if you’re looking for an easy way to make homemade baby food, this method will be your new best friend!

Step 1: Cook the Veggies

I personally love using frozen or canned vegetables because they’re already cleaned, chopped, and often just need a quick cook. If using canned, choose low-sodium or no-salt-added options and rinse them well. Steam, boil, or microwave the veggies until soft and tender.

Step 2: Puree in a Blender

Once the vegetables are cooked, transfer them to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, adding a little water, breastmilk, or formula as needed to get the right consistency. If your baby is just starting solids, a thinner puree is best.

I have had this blender for 10 years now and it still works great!

Step 3: Freeze in Ice Cube Trays

Pour the pureed baby food into ice cube trays and freeze. Once frozen, transfer the cubes into a labeled freezer bag for easy storage. These cubes are perfectly portioned and can be stored for up to three months.

I love this ice cube trays because they come with lids to stack in the freezer.

Step 4: Serve When Ready

When it’s mealtime, simply take out the number of cubes you need and let them defrost in the fridge or warm them gently. If the consistency is too thick, stir in a little breastmilk or formula to thin it out.

Why You’ll Love This Method

  • Saves Money – Making your own baby food is much cheaper than buying jars or pouches.
  • Customizable – You can mix and match different fruits and vegetables for variety.
  • No Preservatives – You know exactly what your baby is eating!

Making homemade baby food doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few simple steps, you can provide your little one with fresh, nutritious meals in no time. Give it a try – your baby (and your wallet) will thank you!
