Sourdough Journey – From First Time Scared Started to Bread Baker
Well unless you have been living under a social media rock, sourdough everything is every where. And after years of sitting and watching I am final ready to take the plunge into sourdough baking.
Not ready to take the leap into sourdough yet, but want to start making your own bread at home? Take a look at this simple bread recipe that I started with.
I should note that I am following a guide a found on @soutdoughglow Instagram
Things to note before your start. I used bottled purified water as I was reading to get my sourdough started going I read that you needed purified water not tap water. For me it was just easier to use bottle water.
Day 1
Day one was 10 g of water and 10 g of flour. 10 g is way smaller of an amount than I realized and my jar might be a little big. Mix, cover and let it sit overnight.
Day 2 & 3
Day two and three was to 10 g of water and 10 g of flour. Mix, cover and let it sit overnight.
Day 4
Day four you remove and throw away 15 grams of starter ( no discard to save just yet). Then add your 10 g of water and 10 g of flour. Mix, cover and let it sit overnight.
Day 5
Day five was to 10 g of water and 10 g of flour. Covered an now letting it sit overnight. Mix, cover and let it sit overnight.
Day 6 to 8
Day six, seven and eight you remove and throw away 15 grams of starter ( no discard to save just yet). Then add your 10 g of water and 10 g of flour. Mix, cover and let it sit overnight.
Day 9
Day nine was to 10 g of water and 10 g of flour. Covered an now letting it sit overnight. Mix, cover and let it sit overnight.
Day 10
Day ten you remove and throw away 15 grams of starter ( no discard to save just yet). Then add your 10 g of water and 10 g of flour. Mix, cover and let it sit overnight.
Congratulation you are ready to start making your sourdough recipes! Here are 3 things to look for to make sure your started is ready:
- is consistently bubbly
- it doubles in size after feeding (meaning after you add flour and water and it sits for 8 to 12 hours it doubles in size)
- has a pleasant aroma
