Eric Carle American Flags

Eric Carle’s Birthday is June 25, and with his birthday being so close to 4th of july I wanted to find a way to mesh the two into an art project. So we made flags, just like Eric Carle makes his pictures. By painting then cutting the paper into shapes.

First we did musical painting and let the kiddos use red, white and blue paint on red, white and blue paper and listened to patriotic music.  When the music stopped the kids switch tables and painted with a new paint and paper. (If I do this again I would pay more attention to what color is on what paper, so it might be red paint on red paper, and blue paint on blue paper it would help the concept a little better.)

After the paint dried I cut the paper into blue squares and red rectangles.

Then we painted white cardstock with white paint with a little bit of silver glitter paint mixed in with  forks!!

The last day I took the white paper and drew a rectangle for the blue part of the flag and the kids did the rest. (sorry for the blury pictures)

These are some of the coolest flags I have ever made with the kids, definitely going to do them again next year!
